Pakistani court sentences Czech model to eight years in drug smuggling case

A Pakistani Court in Lahore city on Wednesday, March 20, sentenced a Czech model arrested last year on charges of attempting to smuggle heroin from Pakistan to Abu Dhabi (UAE) to eight years in jail.
Her sentence also includes an $800 (Rs.113,000) fine.

The trial in the case had been completed on January 9, today, Additional Sessions Judge issued the verdict against 22-year-old Tereza Hluskova.

Hluskova has told investigators that she came to Pakistan to work as a model, but someone put 8.5 kilograms of heroin into her luggage as she was returning.

She was arrested when she tried to board a flight for Abu Dhabi on January 10, 2018, on Lahore Airport.

Czech diplomats had provided her legal assistance.

Pakistani authorities often make arrests of both Pakistanis and foreigners for transporting the drug.

Over the course of her trial, nine witnesses had recorded their statements against the accused.

Her lawyer says, she will appeal.

Her sentence also includes an $800 fine.
