The China Mobile Pakistan ‘Zong’ on Thursday successfully conducted 5G tests in Pakistan, the company said in a press release.
Zong (Pakistani mobile data network operator) has become the first operator to officially test 5G (fifth generation) services in the country”, the statement added.
5G will deliver at least 1GB/s. a speed of 1.14 GB/s was achieved in successful tests on Thursday, Zong spokesperson.
This success marks an important milestone in Pakistan’s telecommunication sector, said Zong CEO, Wang Hua.
The Zong CEO also announced that the company will establish a 5G innovation center in Pakistan in collaboration with Huawei, for which a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was also signed at the event.
He reminded the audience that five years ago, it was CMPak that had first brought 4G technology to Pakistan. Hua said that the introduction of 5G services is an important pillar to meet future technological needs.
In July, PTA (Pakistan Telecommunication Authority) issued the advertisement for 5G wireless networks tests. The telecom regulator is expected to issue 5G licenses by year-end.
PTA chairman Amir Azeem Bajwa said the country will soon be able to enjoy 5G (fifth generation) services which will be introduced for commercial purposes.
Moreover, he said I would like to take this moment in congratulating Zong for becoming first Pakistan’s telecom operator to have successfully conducted the 5G test and putting Pakistan on a shortlist of countries which are 5G ready.
Zong 5G in Pakistan is expected to be available by early next year.
