The Unresolved Model Town Case Calls For a New JIT

The Supreme Court (SC) shall consider the appeal on Monday for the Model Town Massacre( 17th June 2018) to be inquired through a new Joint Investigation Team (JIT).

As stated, the Chief Justice, Mian Saqib Nisar will lead a two-member bench in the high court. The case will be heard along with Justice Ijazul Ahsan, to determine the need for a new JIT.

Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) submitted the names of 139 people, concerning the Model Town case. These included the previous PM, Nawaz Sharif, Shehbaz Sharif and Hamza Shehbaz and they were given notices.

Shehbaz Sharif was presented at the high court on 19th November, as the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) acquired the court notice.

On 6th October, the Chief Justice had already noted Bisma Amjad’s appeal, the daughter of a martyred in the incident.

Dr. Tahir ul Qadri, the PAT leader, appeared before the SC on October 6. He showed in front of the three-judge bench that a new JIT needs to be established to examine the Model Town bloodbath. He complained that the matter was not justly dealt with in the past.
